When ICARE first met Maria, her parents were desperately trying to raise money to get Maria out of Iraq to receive the surgical attention she needs. ICARE and many organisations world wide stepped up and raised enough funds to help this suffering family. We are so pleased to inform you that thanks to your donations Maria was able to travel to neighbouring Jordan and then to the US where she has since received life saving surgery.

 

Maria's Medical Condition:

- Maria was born with a congenital disorder known as Spina Bifida. Doctors in Iraq suspect this is a result of her mother's exposure to chemical weapons during the war. Nervous system disorders including paralysis of legs and thus inability to crawl/walk. Maria had a spinal tumour which was continually getting larger causing a hunched back. She also suffered from tropia (crossed eyes), learning difficulties and imparied development.
